About the Getaway Kit
Are You Ready for a Getaway?
I absolutely LOVE the “tour guide” for the parents in this kit. It has virtually everything you could need to know to help you get ready. From an itinerary, to a list of supplies, to prayer points, and suggestions for success, you are guided through setting up your getaway.
The tour guide encourages you to “do the projects.” It stresses that these are the kids favorite parts, but the minute I pull out play dough, I lose the respect of my 12 year old son. Let’s just be honest about that. He’s “too grown up” in his eyes to play with play dough. My 10 year old would love it, and will probably still love it when he’s 12. My girls would love it. But my 12 year old, the one I know is ready for this lesson, out grew play dough years ago. He also wouldn’t enjoy puzzles and the like, so the projects would ruin the weekend for him anyway. The audios sound like they are addressing a much younger child, as well. My current 12 year old would scoff, but the content is way more than what our 10 year old is ready for. So again, I think when our now 10 year old is more ready for this talk, we might revisit this. So it really depends on your child.
The kids journal is AWESOME! However, it only works if you do the entire getaway exactly as its laid out. In fact, the whole kit is weaved together so well, that you really do have to follow their suggested schedule for it to work. The audio lays out the plan for the weekend, tells you when to do the projects, to look at pictures in the journal, etc. The journal has pages to take notes, respond to projects, and take it all deeper. It’s amazingly put together, really. It’s just not what we need for our 12 year old, but I’ll revisit it when our other son is closer to ready for this lesson.
